Even though Mr. Heflin did not possess classic good looks he earned, via his ample acting ability, a respectable number of leading and supporting roles in such films as: Grand Central Murder [1942], Green Dolphin Street [1947] and Possessed [1947]. My personal favorite is his sensitive role as Jennifer Jones’ character’s long-suffering husband, Dr. Bovary, in Madame Bovary [1949]. I was surprised to recently learn that during World War II Mr. Heflin served as a combat cameraman with the U.S. forces in Europe.
