Sir Tim Rice gets Walk of Fame star

Sir Tim Rice was keen to see where his new star on Hollywood’s Walk Of Fame was in comparison to Andrew Lloyd Webber’s.

After the world-renowned lyricist was given the prestigious honour in LA, he joked: “I’ve seen his star but I can’t remember where it is. It’s in a much less prominent position is it?”

Sir Tim is the 2,375th person to receive the honour, with his star appropriately positioned in front of the historic Pantages Theatre.

During the ceremony he told the crowd gathered on Hollywood Boulevard: “I’m honoured to be here and I look forward to many more happy days in Los Angeles, but there won’t be many as happy as this one.”

“It’s fantastic,” he said later. “I’ve often walked up and down this street and seen so many great names and it’s never really crossed my mind that somebody who was not originally in the film business or in Hollywood would ever get here.”

But after winning three Oscars for his work on the music for Evita, The Lion King and Aladdin, Sir Tim has he’d become much more familiar with working across the pond.

“The second half of my career so far has been very much based around Hollywood and Los Angeles and I greatly appreciate that the city has done this,” he said.
