OBITUARY

Richard Zanuck, Oscar-winning producer, dies at 77

 

 

Richard Zanuck, who was head of production at 20th Century Fox and later ran his own production company, marshaled films including ‘Jaws,’ ‘Driving Miss Daisy’ and ‘The Sting.’ He produced six films by director Tim Burton and helped launch the career of Steven Spielberg, who has called Zanuck ‘a director’s producer.’

Richard D. Zanuck, who emerged from the shadow of his legendary movie-mogul father as head of production at 20th Century Fox in the 1960s and later became an Oscar-winning independent producer whose films included “Jaws,” “The Verdict” and “Driving Miss Daisy,” died Friday. He was 77.

An unusual view of the Kodak Theatre, home of the Academy Awards ceremony. The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel can be seen in the top center of the photo, to the right of the dark building. In the upper right section, in the distance you can see Century City. Where these buildings stand was once the back lot of 20th Century-Fox Studios.

William Self dies at 89; 20th Century-Fox production executive

 

 

 

Self was in charge of television production at the studio in the 1960s and early ’70s, when its roster of shows included ‘Peyton Place,’ ‘Batman,’ and ‘MASH.’

William Self, a producer and television executive who was in charge of television production at 20th Century-Fox during the 1960s and early `70s when its list of successful shows included “Peyton Place,” “Batman” and ” MASH,” has died. He was 89.
