Fitzgerald inspires something nostalgic in me. Growing up in Minnesota I’ve driven down the alley behind the house in St Paul where he finished his first novel and imagined him up there in the 3rd floor garret, typing & sweating from those hot summer nights Minnesota has. I went to the Commodore Hotel bar where he used to go for drinks looking for a glimpse of those gay days and have studied in vain the bar at the University Club where he inscribed a mysterious alias. I’ve had lunch on the terrace at the Grove Park Inn is Asheville where he used to stay while visiting Zelda. It’s so melancholy to feel his presence but know he gone.
As FSF is one of my favorite authors, I so appreciate this remembrance. Thanks Allan!
