 Above is the former residence of Sydney Chaplin, who was the brother of Charlie Chaplin. The house stood just north of, and on the same block as the Chaplin Studios, which still exist but are now the Jim Henson Studios. (LAPL)

OBITUARY

Ernest Borgnine dies at 95; won Oscar for ‘Marty,’ showed comic side in sitcom

 

 

The stocky, gap-toothed Connecticut native won an Academy Award for his portrayal of a lonely Bronx butcher looking for love in the 1955 drama ‘Marty.’ He also starred in the popular TV show ‘McHale’s Navy.’

Ernest Borgnine, who delivered an Academy Award-winning performance as the lonely Bronx butcher looking for love in the 1955 drama “Marty” and displayed his comic side in the 1960s as the star of the popular TV sitcom “McHale’s Navy,” has died. He was 95.
